Anglian Home Improvements hosted a Macmillan Male Cancer Awareness Day at its Norwich factory on Monday 1 June, giving staff an opportunity to find out more about male specific cancers and have their questions about cancer answered by a Macmillan health professional.
The event was arranged to mark the start of Men’s Cancer Awareness Month in June and included a 20 minute presentation that was repeated four times over the course of the day. This covered information on the most common male cancers, tips on how to spot them, what to do next, and where to get financial support for those affected by cancer.
Leaflets and information packs were made available for those who wanted to find out more or who were unable to attend one of the presentations. An information desk that was set up for Macmillan Male Cancer Awareness Day was busy throughout the day.
Macmillan Cancer Support is one of Anglian’s chosen charities and the day was organised by the charity as a way of thanking the business and its employees for their generous fundraising efforts.
Shaun Campbell, Fundraising Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said, “It was a great opportunity for Macmillan to engage with lots of men in the factory. The feedback and support we received was invaluable and we were delighted with the day. Without the support of Anglian Home Improvements and all staff, we wouldn’t be able to support the people who need it most. On behalf of Macmillan, thank you!”
Melanie McDonald, Head of PR & Brand Marketing at Anglian Home Improvements, said, “We were delighted to work with Macmillan Cancer Support on this valuable activity aimed at informing and educating our employees about male cancers, as well as increasing awareness of the excellent work that the charity does. We were pleased to see such a high level of interest from the men within the Anglian workforce. Following this success, we are now looking into arranging something similar for our female employees later in the year.”
Anglian employees raised £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support last autumn by participating in Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning – an amount that was then matched by the business, resulting in a total of £12,000 being donated. This year Anglian will again be supporting the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in September, as well as organising additional fundraising activity linked to Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
