Almost 1,000 years of combined loyal service from 37 Anglian Home Improvements employees was recognised and celebrated at the company’s 2014 long service awards, held at Carrow Road on 26th November.
The awards were presented by Anglian Home Improvements Group Chief Executive, Laurence Vaughan, with assistance from Norwich City midfielder Alex Tettey and Anglian ambassador Sally Geeson. Alex Tettey then gave the award winners a special behind-the-scenes tour of Norwich City Football Club’s ground and facilities.
Around 90 people attended the event at the Top of the Terrace at Carrow Road, where staff who have worked at Anglian Home Improvements for 20, 30 or 40 years are awarded for their long service, plus a new 25 year category has been included from this year.
Rachel Larter was one of the 14 people recognised for 25 years’ service to the business. She started working for Anglian Home Improvements as a switchboard operator 25 years ago when she was only 19 years old. Rachel has witnessed a huge transition during her time at Anglian, both in terms of the size of the business and the technology used. From initially working with a landline telephone, pen and paper with not a mobile phone in sight, she has seen the business progress through radios, telexes and pagers, to today’s modern telecommunications system. Rachel has worked her way up to become a Communications Analyst, now dealing with the day to day requirements of telecoms for the company.
Speaking about her 25 years at Anglian Home Improvements, she said, “I can’t believe it’s 25 years already – it really doesn’t feel like that. I enjoy my job and love what I do, there’s not been a day when I’ve woken up and not wanted to go to work.
“My role is very varied and I get to work with lots of different people across the company, including manufacturing, sales, directors and our suppliers. I’ve made some lifelong friends here. You’re not just part of the furniture at Anglian, there is a family spirit here, and getting recognition and awards such as this is really appreciated. It was also really nice to see how many managers and directors were at the long service awards to show their support, and amazing to see the large number of people receiving awards.”
Group Chief Executive Laurence Vaughan said, “Anglian Home Improvements would not be the industry leading company it is today without the talented and knowledgeable people we have working with us. From the Purchasing Department to The Glass Factory, make no mistake, the contribution and role of each and every award winner is highly respected and greatly appreciated. After all, it is the expertise and experience of these people that makes Anglian so successful.”
