What is a P-Shaped Conservatory?
A P-shaped conservatory combines a main rectangular section with a bay at one end to make the shape of a P. The bay tends to be curved, making it different from an L-shaped conservatory where there might be a square bay at one end. They are often suited to larger properties with more space but can be adapted for smaller spaces too.
Benefits of P-Shaped Conservatories
-
Multifunctional Space
P-shaped conservatories make a great, versatile addition to your home. The unique P shape with the curved bay means you can create a new statement room or one with distinct functional zones. Use the rectangle section for relaxing or dining and the curved bay for work or hobbies.
-
Ideal for Any Home
P-shaped conservatories can be customised to fit all sorts of homes, whether that’s a more intimate space or something grander and more spacious. You can create a more traditional look to enhance a period property or keep things sleek and modern for a contemporary home.
-
Maximises Natural Light
The different sections of P-shaped conservatories mean they can catch sunlight from multiple angles, especially with a glass roof. The multiple panels on the curved bay also mean more chances to capture the sunlight. With a solid roof, add glazed panels at key points so you don’t miss the sun.

What's the Difference Between a P-shaped and L-shaped Conservatory?
P-shaped conservatories combine two main areas, one rectangular and one with a curved bay. An L-shaped conservatory is similar in that it has two distinct areas, but these are both rectangular or square and sit at right angles to each other. L-shaped conservatories are often used to fill in a corner between two walls of a house, or as a wraparound option. P-shaped conservatories often sit with the rectangular section across the back wall of a house and the curved bay projecting out on the left or right side.

P-Shaped Conservatory FAQs
Your questions about P-shaped conservatories answered by us.
The cost of a P-shaped conservatory largely depends on its size, along with design features like the number of doors, windows and the type of roof. Any extra finishing decorative details can also affect the price. Every P-shaped conservatory we create is bespoke, so the price will be unique to each project. Yes, our P-shaped conservatories can be designed in Victorian or Edwardian style. A Victorian P-shaped conservatory embodies a more traditional, ornate look, while an Edwardian P-shaped conservatory design can be understated and elegant.
Planning permission for a P-shaped conservatory usually isn’t required unless it’s especially large. It also depends on how much of the existing garden it will take up, or if it’s close to the border of your property. We’ll always take care of any planning applications as part of our design and build process. Find out more about planning permission for conservatories.
Yes, you can use a modern P-shaped conservatory throughout the year. Modern uPVC conservatories have double glazed windows and doors with all the thermal efficiency they offer. Glass roofs are also double glazed and in the case of our glass roofs, we use our unique glass that is even better at reducing heat loss and heat gain at the same time. You can also add a solid roof for even more insulation. Making use of radiators, underfloor heating and blinds can also help to keep your conservatory comfortable year-round.
The most thermally efficient option is a solid tiled roof, which will help to keep your P-shaped conservatory comfortable through the changing seasons. If you want more natural light, a fully glazed roof with SolaroofⓇ technology will help to reflect the sun’s heat.
