One of the largest of five towns in the Wealden District of East Sussex, Hailsham has a history of agriculture with its cattle markets where sheep and cows have been traded regularly since the 12th century, when it was officially declared a market charter town.
It was a town that was renowned for its rope making, originally providing ropes for public hanging to Great Britain and The Colonies. Most of the town’s industry is now based in Diplocks Ways and Station Road to the west of town.
Hailsham has a population of around 20,500 with average house prices in 2012 being around £200,000. It is a safe place to live as they fall below the national average for reported robberies, burglaries and other criminal offences.
