The Importance of energy saving and how our products can help

By on 5th June in Home Inspiration

We are all aware that we need to do our bit to reduce energy usage, but do we all know why we need to do this?

Well, there are a number of reasons and with the country targeting an 80% decrease in carbon emissions by 2050, we all have to take steps to help achieve this target. By reducing our energy usage we can also reduce our dependency on energy suppliers and with that, we reduce our dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels. If we were to continue burning fossil fuels at the current rate, they will run out sooner and we would have to find new ways to produce energy sooner too. It is predicted that oil will be used up by 2030, natural gas by 2050 and coal will run out in about 300 years according to Wikipedia.

Let’s be honest though, the main reason we all want to save energy is more selfish – to help reduce our own energy bills and save money. We should all be looking for new ways to use less electricity, less water and less money. One of the main areas to look at is your home.

So, what products can you install that will actually help reduce your energy usage?

One of the best ways is to check how well insulated your home is. When it snows, does it melt quickly on your roof? If it does, then heat is rising up and out of your house. Installing loft insulation will help reduce this, trapping the heat in your rooms, rather than heating the street.

Cavity wall insulation is another great way to keep heat inside. Small holes are drilled into your walls and the cavities are filled with an insulating material. The holes are filled in and no mess is left. Mrs Energy Saving invested in this nifty energy saving tip not so long ago and kindly wrote us an article about it.

A-rated Double Glazing

double glazed window

A lot of houses are literally throwing money of the window. Old, draughty, single glazed windows will all be losing heat like there’s no tomorrow. A-rated, energy efficient windows are the way forward. These windows will let in more heat than what escapes, using a special low iron glass to harness the sun’s energy. With more warmth entering your home, your boiler won’t have to work as hard, therefore using less energy. You may even notice such a vast difference that you can turn your thermostat down a degree or two, which will save you more money!

The glass is not the only thing that helps. An Anglian window’s sealed unit has a Clearline spacer bar that lowers the thermal transmittance between the glass panes. The uPVC seal around the window is also airtight so days of the pesky, draughty windows are gone: as are the days of repainting your window frames, saving you time and money. Good ol’ double glazing, eh?

Photovoltaic Solar Panels

Renewable energy sources are slowly becoming a more integral part of everyone’s lives. The world needs to reduce its carbon emissions and stop using fossil fuels to fulfill energy requirements, especially as they will eventually run out. Anglian’s Photovoltaic solar panels will help you on your way to a more energy independent life.

Solar installation

Harvesting the Sun’s energy, photovoltaic solar panels will generate electricity which will help lower your energy bills : and if you have a south facing roof, your photovoltaic solar panels will produce even more electricity, in turn saving you even more money.

However, it is not just the money you save that make solar panels a worthwhile investment. It is the money you can earn from the Feed-in-Tariff. Each kilowatt hour of electricity you generate will currently earn you 15.44p. You’ll also earn 4.5p for each unit of electricity that is sold back into the National Grid. Earnings and savings galore!

These are just some of the ways we can help you make your home more energy efficient. Do you know any energy saving tips? Why not share them with us?
