As much as it pains me to write this, staying fit and healthy only comes with a hard work and patience. You need to eat healthily and exercise daily if possible. However, it is much easier said than done!
If you’re not a member of a gym, be it because it’s too expensive, inconvenient or you’re self-conscious and uncomfortable exercising in public, what can you do to keep fit? The solution – find time and a space to exercise at home!
Finding the Space
Whether your main focus is cardio or you’re looking to tone with weights, finding space for machines, dumbbells and barbells can be a bit tricky. However, it’s not impossible – you may just have to re-imagine the use of a room.
A conservatory can make a really good exercise room! Open windows allows plenty of fresh air to flow through, you’re surrounded by natural light and they tend to be spacious enough to have small to medium sized fitness machines housed here.
If you’re lucky enough to have a large conservatory, you could kit it out with a mix of cardio machines and weights.
Norwich City Football Club has two Anglian conservatories at their training ground, one of which is a gym. The players regularly use this to work on different aspects of their fitness.
If you have space in the garage, this should be another area to consider for a workout room. Have a tidy, throw out stuff you no longer need and create a little area dedicated to keeping fit and healthy. If you have dumbbells or barbells, you could even hang hooks on the wall to store them without taking up floor space.

This is the hardest part about keeping fit, especially when you’re doing it at home. It’s very easy to find a reason to not exercise, especially after a long day at work.
Some people set themselves weekly or monthly goals, others put pictures of themselves on the fridge to motivate, whilst other people are super organised and plan their whole month of food and exercise. Being prepared and organised is the best way to ensure you succeed!
