Anglian Home Improvements are pleased to share this brilliant blog from rowing World Champion, Mark Hunter.
This month has been intense, busy and of course fun!
British Rowing had its official announcement of the team that is competing in this year’s World Cup season which kicks off in Munich this weekend. Zac and I are back in our winning combination after some vigorous testing to see if there was potentially any other combination which could match and challenge us, but we were able to prove ourselves and get back to business together.
Outside of training I’ve been busy with events and speaking engagements. One really cool thing I got to do was visit the Lottery headquarters. I did the draw for the London Youth Games, which I competed in as a youngster. I know firsthand the impact it can have on kids in helping them have fun and try different sports, so I do what I can to support it.
I also had a fun evening at the Sports Aid Quiz Night, which helps the charity raise more money to support promising athletes of the future. It was a cracking evening and I even surprised myself with what sporting knowledge I have. Bring on Question of Sport (someday hopefully)!
I had the luxury of going to see Eric Clapton in concert at the Royal Albert Hall. It’s such a beautiful venue, and it was incredible to see that guy “jamming.” He played every good song!
Our training over the last couple of weeks has been really tough because we have been preparing for this weekend’s opening World Cup event. As we are the current Olympic and World Champions in our event, we have put ourselves in the position of favourites for this year, which means everyone will be trying to rattle us and beat us! We want to win every race, but our main aim for the season is to win the World Champs at the end of August and qualify for London 2012; so the World Cups are a stepping stone towards that and a great way to gauge the competition.
I look forward to letting you know how I got on in my next blog.
All the best and thanks for your support!
