Anglian Home Improvement’s, Jason Burchett was player/manager for the Manchester United team and got a squad together for Manchester City too, to take part in this year’s Premier League in a Day. We are still tallying up the total amount raised for Sport Relief, but the target was £25,000! Here is what Jason and his team had to say about the day.
We had a super day, although we ended up with 7 men for most of it. We were let down by about 4 people on the day, which was a shame, but we battled through until the end of the day regardless. As a team we held together, only carrying a few aches and pains, and it really was a struggle to complete the day with such a small squad.
The star player for Man United was Darren Clayton as he made so many saves, and played a huge part keeping us in most of the games.
The Manchester City star player was John Westbrook, pulling his boots on after a long injury and was delighted to get back onto the football pitch. He even managed to score a few goals and played really well.
I know City had been let down by 3 players, but they fought on as much as they could, managing to just stay clear of relegation.
I felt the goal that went against us for being a minute late was a bit harsh when playing Norwich City. We had 5 players after 6pm and two had gone to the toilet, so we couldn’t start with only three players. Shame as we had about 8 games on the spin as well, so didn’t get a break at that point. However, it was nice to see Martin Troughton in the Norwich team and finishing third. 😉
It was good fun all round and we would do it every year for any charity.
Bring on the next Premier League in a Day, hopefully West Ham will make it back to the Premiership and we can represent them like last time, and finish higher than Norwich!
Thanks for all your work and time involved. Job well done to all of you.
Sounds like fighting talk from Jason and his Manchester teams. If you would like to donate to everybody who took part in this year’s Premier League in a Day, go to our donations page.
