The Great Britain gymnast team are eagerly awaiting to hear whether they are all going to be representing their nation in the Olympics this year or if just one will go alone. One of these team members is Louis Smith, who is sponsored by Anglian Home Improvements.
The team have to finish in the top four of the eight teams competing to take their place at London 2012, but if they fail then only one individual will take part in one discipline. Louis Smith won bronze at the Olympics in Beijing for his skills on the pommel horse. He is concerned about their chances of qualifying, after they blew a chance in November at the World Championships, when 4 of the team fell during their high-bars routine.
Louis recommends that everybody focuses, stays calm and try not to let nerves get the best of them. The British women’s team has already qualified, so the boys will be desperate to join them in the summer! Louis has only just managed to find his own way of calming his nerves; by listening to reggae music and pulling a t-shirt over his head to get into the zone.
Smith has managed to calm his nerves before, so we are sure he can do it again. The bronze medal he won 4 years ago is the first Olympic medal won by a British male gymnast since 1908 and his records don’t end there. He holds a Commonwealth title as well as a collection of European and World medals, and recently won a bronze in the World Championship in Tokyo.
Fingers crossed the GB team do the nation proud today and all qualify for what will be the biggest event of the year!
