Thinking about investing in home improvement, extending your home with an conservatory? You should first take heed of Sir Cliff Richard’s fate, after the musician was forced to tear down an extension after it did not measure up to council regulations.
The singer was told in June that he would have to pull down the Home Improvements after contravening Runnymede Borough Council’s rules, which stated that any additions to properties should not exceed 30 per cent of the original building’s floor space.
Sir Cliff’s planning agent, Dave Farrell, said: “It was only a conservatory and it didn’t have any impact on the green belt, but the inspectorate came down on the side of it being a percentage increase over and above the 1986 development.”
The multi award-winning landscape and garden designer Bunny Guinness recently told the Telegraph about the benefits of growing plants in a conservatory and said they are becoming more valued as an indoor/outdoor living space during the summer months.
