George Williams, Double Glazing entrepreneur died yesterday morning in his sleep having been admitted to hospital a few days ago with pneumonia.
In 1966 George Williams started the business from the back of his garage in Norwich, building it into the UK’s market leader for replacement windows and doors. This position is still enjoyed by Anglian today with a current turnover of £225m and the responsibility for the employment of over 5000 across the country. It was a remarkable success story from the young man that started his working life sexing chickens and working for Bernard Matthews (another great Norfolk entrepreneur).
He was truly a legend within the double glazing industry and for those that knew him George was a tremendous individual. His charisma, drive and strength of character built Anglian in those early days from a small East Anglian based business into the UK’s market leader.
Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his wife Alex and the family.
