Jack Piper reports to the Blog the very latest developments during yesterdays qualifying before the big race later today:-
“Hi again from Brands Hatch where the weather is great, nice and dry which is good. Saturday started early when we got up to watch qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai. Good to see Red Bull going well again, but not sure how the teams are going to get back home because all the issues with flying because of the volcano in Iceland. Fortunately we don’t have that problem; neither does Lewis Hamilton’s brother Nicholas who’s been here at Brands the past couple of days. Apparently one of his mates his racing here.
The Formula Renault BARC championship field is clearly going to be very close this year, certainly if qualifying here at Brands is anything to go by. Most of the field was split by less than a second, so every single tenth is really important.
I pushed really hard to get as good grid place as possible but had a bit of an off on a flying lap and ended up stuck in the gravel on the last bend. It was a pity because I was on a faster lap and in a decent position when it happened. We’ve ended up in 14th, not as high as I know we can be, but means it’s going to be interesting on race day and I’ll be looking to make a good start to make up some places as quickly as possible.
It’s sure to be a busy day today I’ll let you know how it goes”.
