Norwich City took on bottom of the league, Reading, at the weekend and the yellows were keen to get another 3 points to help them retain Premiership football. After last week’s disappointing defeat to Arsenal, in a game that was full of controversial decisions, the Canaries were hoping for a straight forward win against the Royals.
City started the game well, holding Reading in their own half for the first 10 minutes with Snodgrass and Garrido both having shots, but both went wide. However, Reading re-organised themselves and played some good football, but although they had the majority of possession in the first half they couldn’t create a good goal scoring opportunity. It was Kei Kamara who came closest to scoring in the first half with a good shot inside the box, but McCarthy made a good save to his left.
Hughton must’ve had some strong words with the Norwich team as they came out in the second half all-guns-blazing! Kei Kamara tested McCarthy again in the opening minutes of the second half, before the deadlock was finally broken. Ryan Bennett, who replaced Turner in the 18th minute, claimed his first ever Norwich goal with a left footed drive sending Carrow Road into raptures.
Norwich quickly doubled their advantage through Elliott Bennett. Another corner was whipped in by Snodgrass and fumbled by McCarthy, leaving Bennett with the simple task of smashing it into the net. 2-0
Despite being two behind, Reading did not give up and managed to claw a goal back through Gareth McCleary. He was given too much space on the edge of the box and his long range effort beat Bunn, nestling in the bottom left corner of the net.
The goal was not enough to spur on a come-back though and Norwich held out for a vital 3 points to help them to maintain top level football. The Anglian Home Improvements Man of the Match was Ryan Bennett.
