Your Questions on Answered by us

How much do uPVC windows cost?

Depending on the colour and glazing you choose, modern uPVC windows tend to cost less than window frames made of wood or aluminium. The average cost can vary depending on the size of the window, type of window, energy efficiency rating, installation costs and the quality of the brand you choose. While professional installation can be more expensive than doing it yourself, it is recommended for the best results and to ensure that your windows are installed correctly.

How long do uPVC windows last?

On average, uPVC windows can last for up to 20-25 years, with some windows lasting even longer. But this lifespan can be affected by a variety of factors, including the quality of the material, the quality of the installation and maintenance over time. Investing in a higher-quality uPVC window can be worth it in the long run, as they will typically last longer and perform better than lower-quality windows. Anglian white uPVC windows in casement and tilt and turn styles hold the BBA accreditation, which means they can last more than 35 years with the proper care.

Is there a difference between uPVC and PVC?

uPVC, which stands for unplasticized polyvinyl chloride, is stronger than PVC, which is more flexible in contrast. PVC, which stands for polyvinyl chloride, contains two plasticisers, BPA and phthalates. These two plasticisers are removed in the process of manufacturing uPVC, which is why we call it unplasticized. The removal of the plasticisers makes uPVC much stronger and far more suited to window and doors and building materials.

Can modern uPVC windows be fitted to existing wooden frames?

While retrofit installations do happen, we do not recommend that you leave existing wooden frames in place when fitting new uPVC windows. There are some big drawbacks including mismatching aesthetics and a decrease in the size of the window opening. We replace your existing window frames during the fitting process, regardless of your window frame material. Installing modern uPVC windows together with new frames ensures a perfect fit and the best thermal efficiency.

What colours do uPVC windows come in?

Some of the most popular colours for uPVC windows include White, Cream Anthracite Grey and Sage Green. A faux woodgrain finish is also popular and creates the traditional look of timber frames with the benefits of modern uPVC. Other colour options include dual colour, where the inside is finished in white and the outside is coloured.

What is best for cleaning uPVC windows?

A mild cleaning solution of warm water and gentle dish soap is best to clean your uPVC windows. Start at the top with a soft cloth or sponge to stop dirty water from dripping onto areas you’ve already cleaned. Don’t forget the hardware: see our complete guide for cleaning uPVC windows, or visit our online shop where you can buy a uPVC window cleaning kit.
