How to Keep Fit In Your Home

By on 30th January in Home Inspiration

As much as it pains me to write this, staying fit and healthy only comes with a hard work and patience. You need to eat healthily and exercise daily if possible. However, it is much easier said than done!

If you’re not a member of a gym, be it because it’s too expensive, inconvenient or you’re self-conscious and uncomfortable exercising in public, what can you do to keep fit? The solution – find time and a space to exercise at home!

Finding the Space

Whether your main focus is cardio or you’re looking to tone with weights, finding space for machines, dumbbells and barbells can be a bit tricky. However, it’s not impossible – you may just have to re-imagine the use of a room.

A conservatory can make a really good exercise room! Open windows allows plenty of fresh air to flow through, you’re surrounded by natural light and they tend to be spacious enough to have small to medium sized fitness machines housed here.

If you’re lucky enough to have a large conservatory, you could kit it out with a mix of cardio machines and weights.

Norwich City Football Club has two Anglian conservatories at their training ground, one of which is a gym. The players regularly use this to work on different aspects of their fitness.

If you have space in the garage, this should be another area to consider for a workout room. Have a tidy, throw out stuff you no longer need and create a little area dedicated to keeping fit and healthy. If you have dumbbells or barbells, you could even hang hooks on the wall to store them without taking up floor space.

Apps & Personal Trainers at the Click of a Button

The rise of smart phones has seen personal trainers move into the world of apps and social media, making them readily accessible. I caught up with Kent, a personal trainer from MSP Fitness in Norwich, to discuss how you can get fit at home and how apps have changed his regimes.

Kent from MSP FitnessWhen I say, “hey it’s time to get fit”, I bet the first things that come to mind are “go to the gym” and “I need a diet plan,” right?

Going to the gym and eating healthily has always worked and been the way forward, but with the pace of modern living and technology advancing so quickly, so have the many ways to get fit and stay healthy.

You no longer need to have a gym full of equipment. You also don’t need to go on the latest fad diet to slim down. Nowadays you can control every part of your health and fitness journey from your smartphone.

Many apps show you what exercises to do, have YouTube videos that demonstrate workouts and gives you food ideas. There’s also calorie counting apps that allow you to scan bar-codes and help you control and understand how much you’re eating – the list of apps available is endless.

However, with all these tools at your fingertips, you’d think it’d be simple, right. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case and it’s confusing knowing which apps, workouts and food plans are right for you.

MSPFitness Online Coaching

After four years of being a qualified personal trainer, I decided I wanted to take what I had learned and help as many people as possible. With the aid of modern technology, it is reasonable to say that now I can.

I’ve created an easy to use app that is tailored to you, ensuring your personalised exercise plans and diet advice will help you reach your goals.

One of the best features about this apps is the 24/7 contact with your personal trainer via instant message! So if you have a question, need help, advice or motivation we are right here for you, day and night.

We can also monitor your workouts live, so we can immediately see the impacts of how well you’re doing. This also allows us to make tweaks and changes to your workout straight away, therefore, keeping your workouts up to date and exciting, just like we do for our daily face to face clients.

The benefits don’t stop there either! You don’t need an expensive gym membership or to pay the price you normally do for a face to face personal trainer. You can workout at home with little or no equipment, train in a gym or club of your choice and have a qualified personal trainer right there with you every step of the way, without paying out hundreds of pounds a week.

For the next 7 days you can get a 30 day trial on the MSP Fitness app for just £1!

Finding Motivation

This is the hardest part about keeping fit, especially when you’re doing it at home. It’s very easy to find a reason to not exercise, especially after a long day at work.

Some people set themselves weekly or monthly goals, others put pictures of themselves on the fridge to motivate, whilst other people are super organised and plan their whole month of food and exercise. Being prepared and organised is the best way to ensure you succeed!

However you plan on getting fit this year, we’d love to know how you stay motivated, your progress and any advice you have for others wanting to start out. Get in touch via Facebook or Twitter.
