Young, Daniel Brooks took part in the British Schoolboy Motocross Association (BSMA) qualifying meeting 2 weeks ago, with the hope of earning a place in the BSMA semi-finals. Here is the report from his Dad, Matt.
With a full line up of hopefuls, on what eventually turned out to be a nice day, the pressure was on for Dan to perform and qualify. The meeting was held at Lamberhurst in Kent for a great day of racing.
The racing started with Dan getting a poor start near the back of the field, but he soon got into his stride and cut his way through for a creditable 10th place. We had 4 riders enter from the nationals who always perform at the highest level nationally and Dan managed to get to the back of the leading group, which is quite an achievement being one of the youngest on the track.
In the second race Dan got a better start giving him the chance to battle with the faster riders, after an exciting race Dan finished a great 7th, which was probably the best I had seen him ride so far this year in this group!
As usual with Dan this year, disaster struck at the start of the third race with his bike spluttering to a stop a few yards after the start, his spark plug had oiled up causing the bike to stall. After a short sprint down the starting straight (something I’m clearly not built for anymore) out came the spark plug spanner and the plug was quickly changed. However, Dan was nearly a whole lap down on the field and would have to ride like a demon to pull this one out the bag.
Half race distance and Dan had caught up the back of the field, we all had our eyes shut as he was taking some big chances trying to close the gap, but luck was now on his side and he started to cut through the field, earning an incredible 11th place at the finish line and a well deserved place in the BSMA semi finals.
I will keep you updated on Dans progress and our BSMA Semi-final adventure later in the week.
