Anglian Home Improvements are sponsoring the guys and girls taking part in this year’s Olympic games. The start date is fast approaching and the torchbearers have been announced, filling the country with anticipation and excitement for the sporting event of a lifetime. Here is the latest blog from long distance runner, Charlie Grice.

Hi Everyone,

You’ll be pleased to hear that this month I have been training hard and studying hard! I am not enjoying the studying part as a lot of my friends are winging their way to Kenya and various other locations for some warm weather training, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel for myself as competitions will start in early May.

Although it is a quiet time with competition, I do have some exciting news to share.

I’ve been doing some good sessions and my coach Jon is pleased with my progress. I must admit I can’t wait for the warmer weather and to get my racing kit on! The warm weather this weekend and the official start of British Summer time hammered it home that everything will come around very quickly!

One piece of good news that I have, is that I have been awarded the great honour of being an Olympic torchbearer. I am really looking forward to this, although I don’t know yet where exactly I will be running, but am sure it will be in my home county of Sussex.

The other news is that I have been asked by the Brighton Marathon (2nd largest marathon in the country) to help start the junior mini mile races this year as I have won the race for the last two years. Unfortunately, I am too old this year to take part in the race, but I will enjoy soaking up the great atmosphere on the day.

I have also been selected to run at the Olympics Test Event, which will be the British University Championships. This will be held in May at the Olympic Stadium. Although I am not at university yet, UK Athletics are holding some invitational races and I will be running in one of these. Apparently, there are going to be around 40,000 spectators on the Saturday, so it should be a great atmosphere!

Well, that is all my news for now, but I will back in touch again next month.
