Period Front Doors

A period door is a modern door designed to look like a door from a particular era. For example, a Victorian style door for a Victorian house. Modern period front doors combine the charm of an older door with enhanced security and energy efficiency standards.

Types of Period Doors

Even if you live in a modern home, a period front door can add a different element to a contemporary aesthetic. There are four main types of period doors:

Victorian Front Doors

Victorian front doors traditionally have two solid and two glazed long rectangular panels. The perfect upgrade for your period terrace, our Victorian doors come in uPVC, wood, aluminium and composite. Discover our Durham, Ely and Winchester Victorian-style composite doors.

1930s Front Doors

A 1930s front door often has a small curved window across its top third and a shoulder height handle. Windows on 1930s doors often have art deco designs, and some even have a small sill. Take a closer look at the Carlisle or Dundee 1930s-style composite doors.

Georgian Front Doors

Georgian front doors traditionally had four rectangular and two square upper panels. The square panels are often glazed, and some doors can be three panels wide. Browse our Ribble, Severn, Tay, Tweed and Wensum wooden Georgian doors designs.

Edwardian Front Doors

Our Edwardian front doors tend to have between 6 and 10 solid or glazed panels. Perfect for wider frames, Edwardian door styles take inspiration from British Edwardian architecture. Discover our Spay, Tamar and Tyne Wooden Edwardian doors designs.

How to Choose Period Doors

Before you make any decisions about your new period front door, it’s important to do a little research. You might think you know when your home was built and the period it fits into, but it always helps to double check first.

Once you know that, you can decide whether you want to match that or impose your own unique style. It may be that you get to restore your home to its original glory with a door that fits better than the current one. In the case of restoration, you might want to replace your windows at the same time from our wide range of period windows.

Period Door Common Questions

Is it easy to replace a door?

Replacing your front door with Anglian is a quick and easy process. Our surveyor takes precise measurements, so your door is made to fit your home. Taking these measurements ensures a smooth installation that usually takes no more than half a day per door.

Can I put a new door in an existing frame?

You can fit a new door into an existing doorframe, but we do not recommend it. We install the full door set including frame, door leaf, threshold sill, locks and furniture. When you replace a door and put the new one in an existing frame, there is no guarantee it will be as secure and weatherproof as a made to measure door set.
