Earlier this summer, we launched an exciting nationwide appeal to show our support for local community sports teams with the help of Olympic gold medallist Sam Quek MBE.
We wanted to champion the many clubs that encourage participation in sport in communities up and down the country, most of which are run by volunteers. We also wanted to help inspire all those who play sport on a local level, and enjoy the many benefits this can bring.
We put 20 kit sponsorships worth £300 each up for grabs, and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that sent in a Support for Sport 2018 application. We loved hearing about your local sports clubs – it’s clear that so much pride and passion makes its way onto pitches, courts and fields across the UK week in and week out.
Because we received so many fantastic entries, the judging process was very difficult! Thankfully Sam Quek MBE performed guest judge duties and helped us to choose our 20 worthy winners.
Our congratulations go to our 20 winning teams:

Sam Quek has played as a defender for both the England and Great Britain hockey teams. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Sam played a key role in the Great Britain team that famously won gold in an exhilarating final against the Netherlands. During the Rio Olympics, Sam won her 50th cap for Great Britain and now has more than 125 combined caps for England and Great Britain.
She was also part of the England hockey team that won gold at the European Championships in London in 2015. Sam notably won "Man of the Match" in the final vs. the Netherlands, who were the reigning World and Olympic Champions at the time.
After Rio, Sam and her GB teammates were awarded MBEs in the 2016 New Year's Honours List. Sam also appeared on the popular ITV show I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, coming 4th in the end. Since then, Sam has appeared multiple times on TV and the radio.
During this fast rise in fame, Sam has been busy building a career as a sports presenter. During the summer of 2017 she was part of Channel 4's presenting team for the Women Football European Championships in Holland and presented the NFL Show on BBC 1 in December. She was also part of Channel 5's presenting team for the live Rugby Premiership matches in April.
