To enter the competition simply go to our online magazine, Good to be Home’s Facebook or Twitter (@GoodtobeHomemag) and ‘Like’/Follow the pages and comment who you would like to take with you. If you don’t know why this is a show you cannot miss, read on.

Innovation Station and Design

Anglian orangery at Grand Designs live Birmingham

The Innovation Station is one of three stands brought to you by Anglian Home Improvements; the other two being one of our grand timber orangeries and one is a complete surprise to the general public. The Innovation Station will be showcasing and demonstrating some of the latest products to have entered the market. Innovative new building products, new materials to save you energy and of course new gizmos and gadgets will be presented during seminars hosted by Philippa Forrester, Charlie Luxton and Lucy Hedges. Philippa will kick it off at 10.30am on Thursday 9th October.

Energy efficiency is a subject that’s hot on everyone’s lips and something we should all be striving towards. E.ON have a new state of the art energy monitor for your home to help you keep an eye on the energy you use. This meter doesn’t just show you how much energy you are using, you can check historical usage and which appliances are draining your energy supplies. Find them on stand B458.

British Gypsum are another company we think you should pay a visit. They have innovative new ideas which will help you make the most out of a room - for example, they have a new product call Thistle Magnetic Plaster which turns walls into an interactive magnetic area, ideal for offices, kid’s rooms, kitchens or even just to display family photos or reminders… the options are endless!

They have a range of cool products that all have practical value, so definitely go and see what they have to offer, it could change how you live. Stand B799 for these guys.

Wallpaper, furniture and concrete?

I know concrete sounds like a bizarre product to go to see at Grand Designs Live (stand L450), however, it is well worth visiting Concreate Flooring for their unique, modern and versatile product range. You need to see it and feel it to realise its full potential. It can be a truly stunning product because of how it is polished and finished in unique ways. They have a technique that means it can be used with wood, side by side, with no transition gap. Did I mention it’s mould resistant, fireproof and aids in sound reduction?

Wall murals are becoming a growing trend to brighten our rooms and add depth, character or just a little spark to make them unique. 1wall have an awesome collection of murals for walls and doors. My favourite has to be the Where’s Wally scene for a children’s room…

A lovely Loftcat Home

Another stand I think you cannot miss is Loftcat Home, a company we have featured before. Their eclectic range of products is so unique, carefully made and sometimes a little bizarre that you should definitely pay them a visit on stand L150. It is their fantastic use of reclaimed wood that makes their products so special. If you buy a piece of furniture from here, it is bound to have a rich history - it could’ve been a piece of railway track in India or washed up on the shore after travelling hundreds of miles.

The final product we think you should see is Studybed, ideal for students or those of you who need a home office and a spare room. Studybed is a desk that with a few movements can be turned into a bed. An ingenious invention to help us make the most out of our rooms and the space available. See it in action on stand L55.
