Curtains for bathroom windows

At Anglian, we sell a huge range of windows, so it's safe to say we know a thing or two about curtains.

Curtains are a popular choice for bathroom windows, as they allow light in but maintain privacy when drawn. Bathroom windows are generally trickier than bedroom or living room curtains to dress, as bathrooms tend to be one of the smallest spaces in the home and the windows are often in difficult places too.

Plus, you need to choose curtains in a material that withhold moisture and humidity.

So, if you're thinking about buying curtains for your bathroom but are unsure where to start, our guide will help you find the perfect pair.

Café curtains

Best made with light, neutral fabrics, a simple café curtain can be the perfect finishing touch to your bathroom to add elegance and flair to the room. Café curtains are placed across the lower half of the window leaving the top part exposed to allow plenty of sunlight into the bathroom. But if you're worried about privacy you can always add a roman shade or blind underneath. Arch windows are notoriously difficult to dress, but café curtains are a great option for arched windows. Hung halfway up, they leave the beautiful arch exposed but still allow for privacy.

Floor length curtains

If you're lucky enough to have floor to ceiling windows, or if your bathroom is quite large, then floor length curtains are a brilliant option for you and will help to create a focal point of your bathroom window. They bring a luxurious and elegant feel to the room and when tied back, they allow plenty of light to flood into the room or can be drawn for privacy and warmth. Plus, they can be made in a selection of fabrics, styles and colours to perfectly match your bathroom decor - just remember to pick a fabric that withholds moisture well, like linen.

Window shades

Window shades are incredibly popular for bathrooms due to their functionality and simplicity. Like their blind-counterpart, roman shades consist of a single sheet of fabric that hangs in the window. Practical and minimal, you can easily control the light levels. Thanks to endless coloured and pattern designs, you can also choose a shade that's perfect for you. Balloon shades add a certain softness to a room and are distinguished by their curved hem and puffy festoons when raised. Available in a variety of patterns and colours, choose cool, neutral shades for minimal decor, or choose a bold geometric pattern for modern flair.

If you want to allow as much light into your bathroom as possible, valances are a great option. While café curtains are hung midway across the window, valances sit at the top, allowing floods of light into the space. But why not add a simple roman shade underneath for some added privacy? Valances are a great way of adding a splash of colour to your bathroom without affecting the overall look of the room. Plus, there's a whole range of valance styles on the market too so you can find the right one for your home.
