Earlier this month Anglian Home Improvements announced the sponsorship of Norwich City and player Stephen Hughes. The Anglian blog team invited Stephen to introduce himself on the Anglian blog as one of Norwich City’s newest additions:
“Hello and welcome to my first blog, I’d like to thank my sponsors Anglian Home Improvements for their support especially as many of their staff are based locally and for their keen interest in me as a person and a player for Norwich City.
For those of you who maybe aren’t familiar with me, I came through the youth academy at Glasgow Rangers, which was a really good experience. At the time there were the likes of Lorenzo Amoruso and Ronald de Boer at the Club and it was great training with those guys every day, you learn so much from it. I managed to play almost 100 games up there, but unfortunately I picked up a few injuries when I was younger, otherwise I would like to think it would have been a lot more. I loved my time up there and it was a great education for me.
I’m 26 years old and play centre midfield and I would describe myself as a player who likes to get on the ball, be involved with everything that happens on the pitch. I consider myself a good passer of the ball and try and get forward as much as I can as well.
Whenever you move to a new club, you are always asked ‘Why did you decide to sign for the club?’ The answer as to why I signed for Norwich City is that I met up and spoke with then manager Bryan Gunn when the boys were in Dundee on their pre-season tour of Scotland.
At the time I was out of contract at my home-town club Motherwell and looking for a new challenge. I had played down at Carrow Road a few times before when I was at Leicester City and I knew the set up, it’s a fantastic stadium, with great fans and it is a big club.
I knew it would be a good challenge to get straight back into the Championship so that’s why I decided to come. Promotion is the aim for everybody at the Club and I think we can do it this year.”
Please keep an eye out on the blog for the very latest news from both Stephen and Norwich City as they fight for promotion back into the championship this season.
