Transform your home extension with unobtrusive views of the sky above. Made from several panes of glass joined to create a pyramid, box or elongated pyramid shape, glass roof lanterns maximise the natural light in your orangery.

Our roof lanterns are custom made in Britain by local craftsmen to fit your new or existing Anglian orangery. They’re covered by a 10-year guarantee and usually require no planning permission. Complement the centrepiece of your Anglian orangery with high quality uPVC or wooden windows in your preferred frame colour, opening configuration and finish.

Roof Lantern Design Options

Get the classic orangery look with a parapet roof finish – with a slightly higher wall at the edges of the roof – finished with a roof lantern sitting atop a flat roof. There’s two main glass lantern shapes to choose from, both made from a combination of stylish triangular and rectangular glass panels.

Long, rectangular roof lanterns channel daylight where you need it. This is perfect for a kitchen-diner orangery extension to add extra natural light in the kitchen, and an architectural talking point over the table.

A wider roof lantern design option – often square in shape – stretches across most of the roof. This design turns a dark and dreary space into a stargazer’s dream at night and floods the room with light during the day.

The Benefits of Anglian Roof Lanterns

Orangery with white Georgian bar windows and french doors from Anglian Home UK

Thermal efficiency

Our glass roof lanterns are thermally efficient to retain heat in your home, as well as harvesting it directly from the sun, which can help to reduce your energy bills in winter. They’re also completely airtight, so there’ll be no pesky draughts or wind whistling through your roof.

Additional value

An orangery increases the value of your home by almost as much as adding a brick extension. Orangeries consist of the roof style lantern, internal pelmet and brick piers or aluminium columns, all contributing to the feel of an extension but brings in the light of a conservatory. Enjoy an extra reception room that is a big selling-point if you put your property on the market.

Increased natural light

Because roof lanterns pull light from a wider angle than flat roof lights, your orangery extension will benefit from increased natural light whether it is north-facing or south facing. We add a tint to our glass which reduces glare and keeps your orangery at a consistent temperature.

Roof Lantern FAQs

Do roof lanterns require planning permission?

According to permitted development rules, installing a new roof lantern or replacing an existing one does not usually require planning permission. However, if you need planning permission for the orangery itself, Anglian will take care of the entire approvals process for you, from application to installation.

How large is a roof lantern?

Anglian roof lanterns are available in two main designs. One is long and rectangular, channelling light in a specific area, another consists almost entirely of glass, which stretches across the roof creating a square-based pyramid shape and the third option is a Victorian style with its attractive bowed frontage. Your glass roof lantern is custom-built by craftsmen to fit your new or existing Anglian orangery perfectly.

Can you add a roof lantern to an existing conservatory?

Anglian can add a roof lantern to a new or existing orangery installed by us. Choose from two main designs – long and rectangular, square or Victorian bowed – and further enhance the space with either uPVC or wooden windows.
