Here at Anglian Home Improvements we are always trying to raise the standard of your home’s energy efficiency, but did you know there are grants available to you for certain work?
The Warm Front Scheme is government run, providing heating and insulation home improvements, in a bid to cut the amount of people suffering in fuel poverty. To qualify for a grant you have to have a poorly insulated home, or a home without a working central heating system.
Winter is just around the corner, so with grants available of up to £3,500, the Warm Front Scheme could help you out of the cold and into the warm. A wide variety of improvements are available within the scheme including, loft insulation, draught proofing, cavity wall insulation, hot water tank insulation and a range of heating devices.
90,000 homes are expected to take advantage of the scheme over the next few years, aiming to help the elderly, disabled and jobless improve their home sufficiently for the bitter winter ahead.
After you apply for this scheme you will have a surveyor visit to check your homes thermal efficiency, and find the areas that you will benefit from most. The surveyor will recommend which work is suitable for your home, only confirming the work can be done once a grant has been agreed.
This scheme is great news for all of those who are in fuel poverty, or just need some home improvements, but cannot front the initial cost. Being in fuel poverty simply means you are spending 10 of your household income to keep warm, through an adequately heated home, and also providing hot water and lighting. Each year fuel poverty is responsible for the premature deaths of between 20,000 and 50,000 people, although only 200 people will die from hypothermia, others will die because of health conditions provoked by the cold and damp. 6.9 million people are living in fuel poverty!
In recent years, communities have set up campaigns, such as Surviving Winter who aim to help the older generation and other people at risk get through the harsh winter. They appeal for donations to be made to help the local people that will struggle during the icy cold months.
