Jason Orme, editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, said that increasing numbers of people are rejecting the idea of moving house and are instead focusing on home improvements.
He said: “People have to expand their living accommodation in some ways. They’ll either move or improve, and you don’t need me to tell you that people are looking to improve in certain ways rather than move at the moment.”
Mr Orme added that there has been a definite cultural shift towards a ‘mend and make do’ attitude in homeowners and landlords, with people trying to do as much work as they can to enhance their property.
In other property news, Claire Barrett editor of Grand Design magazine recently said that more people are seeing their property as a home rather than investments and are spending more money improving them in the process.
