Grand Designs Live must-see stands

By on 19th September in Home Inspiration

Grand Designs Live starts in just 2 weeks time, so we thought we would give you a heads-up on the stands to visit at this year’s show. Also, we are giving you the chance to win tickets to the show, which runs 4th-6th October at the NEC in Birmingham. All you have to do to enter is email us your telephone number, address and postcode to [email protected]

Grand Bathrooms

I start my stands to watch at Geberit AquaClean because of its new toilet with a clever design and integrated shower….yes, I said shower! However, it is not the type of shower you see in Herbal Essences adverts, it is actually a shower for your bottom. This little gem of an invention is the latest must-have for all bathrooms, especially those who are particularly focused on personal hygiene.

This gizmo isn’t just a hygiene focused toilet, it is also conscious of the amount of water used, only using 0.5 litres of water in the pre-set spray time. On top of that, the water only warms up when you approach it, helping you save on energy too.

This is a toilet that will be on display at the show with demonstrations on how it works and what the alternate controls do. My advice would be not to visit if in need of using the toilet. I don’t think they will allow it.

Grand Technology

Renault will have their quietest and most economical car on display at this years show; ZOE, the 100% electric supermini. This affordable, stylish and ‘green’ car is causing quite a stir in the motor industry with its incredible ability to travel 103 miles without needing to refuel. It also has intelligent bi-modal regenerative braking  and Michelin EnergyTM E-V tyres to increase its eco-friendliness.

The car is a grand innovation charging to 80% battery capacity in just 30 minutes using a 43KW charger, but if bought new, it comes with a free 7KW domestic wallbox, which is supplied and installed by British Gas. In terms of electric cars, it is relatively cheap too, only costing approx. £13,995 on-the-road, after the Government’s Plug-in Car Grant.

ZOE hasn’t skimped out on gadgets either as it comes equipped with an embedded touch-screen tablet in the dashboard, which can be controlled by voice or steering wheel controls  and even has apps and services built in. For managers on the go, you can also access your emails through the tablet (obviously not when you are driving)! No excuses for not checking your emails now…

Grand Interiors

There are a few companies that will be exhibiting at this year’s show that have caught my eye and my imagination. Firstly, Cola Red who produce retro American furniture from the 1940s and 50s. If you are a fan of American culture and are looking to recreate the diner from Grease as your kitchen or are wanting a sofa that hails from classic American cars, this is the stand to visit! I thought the below sofa was pretty quirky and something you may all love (or hate).

I am a sucker for something a bit different and unusual or something the lads will love, so apologies ladies, this is one for the majority of guys. The American Billiard Company Ltd create some brilliant convertible pool and billiard tables, and they make football tables too. They are a long standing company, having been designing and crafting since 1952 in France.

These tables are great for making the most out of rooms, changing the dining room table into a pool table for the ‘kids’ (that’s how us adults convince ourselves to buy one), keeping them out of your way so you can cook, clean or relax. It’s a good ploy to get them to set the table before dinner too. These tables are easy to set-up thanks to the removable dining table top, so the quicker you do the washing up, the quicker you can get back to your intense game of pool.

My final stand to watch in the Grand Interiors section is Alexander and Pearl, whose vintage, shabby chic furniture will capture the hearts of all visitors. The up-cycled, miss-match look is all the rage and has proven popular in modern culture, so the Alexander and Pearl selection is bang on trend. With bedroom chest of drawers in a variety of styles and finishes from mahogany style wood to tarnished silver and aviator metal furniture, there is a style you are bound to adore.

This idiosyncratic furniture will look at home in any trendy bedroom, dining room or living room adding life, character and a unique twist to your house. Take a look at their website, you are sure to find something you love!
