Britain in Bloom – Grange over Sands

By on 19th July in Garden

With Anglian Home Improvements being the sponsor of this years Britain in Bloom we have been receiving lots of applications for help with community projects. Here is one from the small coastal town of Grange over Sands.

Here is the project description;

“The border adjacent to Grange over Sands award winning Railway Station had become exceedingly overgrown. The border measures approx. 30ft x 23ft and is split into 2 levels by a small dry stone wall and surrounded by a low wall.

The overgrown shrubs have already been removed with sponsorship funding from TransPennine and the Station Bookstall. Before re-planting with new shrubs and sustainable perennials the border needs further preparation work. Work to be carried out includes the removal of 8inches of topsoil which is full of roots, re-building of the low dry stone wall terracing the border and the addition of 5 tons of fresh topsoil.

TransPenine have agreed to help again towards the cost of the project but we need a further boost to complete the work and purchase new plants. The work will be carried out by Continental Landscapes and the planting by members of the community organised by Grange Civic Society.

The project will enhance the entrance to Grange Railway Station, a Victorian feature of Grange, which won an award for Best Small Station in Europe in 2007!”

How will the project look on completion?
