Norwich R.F.C. welcomed Diss R.F.C. to a wind swept and chilly Beeston Hyrne this weekend, with the brilliant sunshine cheering on the Semi Final of The Norfolk Cup.
The home team played with the advantage of the wind for the first half. It was hoped that with the wind’s help, extra points would be added to the score board.
The visitors, sponsored by Adnams of Southwold, hit the team ‘Broadside’ in the first few moments of the game. However, Norwich soon came back, keeping the pressure up for the remainder of the first half. The score at the end of the first half was to the advantage of Norwich and stood at 12 – 3.

The second half started with a change of ends and the visitors benefitting this time from the wind’s direction. Following sending offs and replacements for both teams, it was not long before the teams were back to full playing strength.
The visitors came back and showed their team’s strength by quickly adding points on the board, taking the final score to Norwich 24 – Diss 27.
This was a game where Norwich was very proud to hold off a team from a higher league and not reaching full time with a runaway score. Diss will now play in the final of the Norfolk Cup.
