Anglian Home Improvements goes YOPEY

Anglian Home Improvements is getting involved in a new youth movement coming to Norfolk and Suffolk called Young People of the Year or ‘YOPEY’.

Yopey was founded by Tony Gearing, a former national newspaper journalist tired of the bad press young people receive. He held the first YOPEY in Royston, Herts, in 2005 to reveal, recognise and reward young unsung heroes and promote them as positive role models. To date 28 YOPEY contests have been held in counties such as Cambridgeshire and Essex, and over £70,000 won by young people to share with good causes. Prime Minister Gordon Brown calls YOPEY ‘a wonderful celebration of Britain’s youth’.

Now YOPEY is coming to Norfolk and Suffolk with the help of Anglian Home Improvements, who is one of the key sponsors along with Norfolk Police. YOPEY will start contacting local schools to find young unsung heroes and turn them into media stars. In the autumn there will be an awards ceremony in the region to celebrate the very best of Norfolk and Suffolk youth, hosted by Anglian Home Improvements among others.

Melanie Russell, Marketing Manager at Anglian Home Improvements expressed her delight in been involved with such an important project ‘ We at Anglian always try and support the local community and young people and this is one project that certainly does that,  YOPEY is truly fantastic’.
