Sound reducing glass
Adding the Anglian sound-reducing option to your replacement windows will give
you peace as well as comfort.
Noise comes from all sorts of sources and, if you live near busy roads, airports, main line railways or factories, your child’s drumming skills are not appreciated by the neighbours or perhaps it’s your neighbours who make the noise, you’ll be only too aware of the benefits of keeping the nuisance of noise under control.
By using different thicknesses of glass and adjusting the arrangement of the panes, sound insulation can be dramatically improved. For most conditions, Anglian’s standard sealed glazing units provide an ideal level of sound reduction but where there are noisier environments, we have developed the Safe & Sound option.
Sound travels in waves. When it hits a solid object like a window it reverberates. If the two panes of glass are the same thickness, the sound waves vibrate both panes at the same frequency. This deadens the sound. With different thicknesses of glass though, the vibrations occur at different frequency levels. This distorts the noise level and further reduces the amount of noise that passes into, or out of, your home.
The standard glazing option includes two panes of 4mm glass separated by a 16mm cavity, providing a level of sound insulation at 31dB.
Safe & Sound glazing uses 6.4mm thick laminated glass on the outside with a 14mm cavity and 4mm inner pane. This combination increases the level of sound insulation to 36dB. Laminated glass filters certain sound frequencies to create a particularly quiet interior. It also increases the security of the glazing in the event of attempted forced entry or impact.
Whilst in the majority of installations the Safe & Sound option will provide a noticeable benefit, in certain situations the level of sound reduction may be affected by certain factors such as the varying blend of noise frequencies, trickle-vents fitted to your windows and window sizes.
