Frequently asked Questions

Solar Panel Information systems

Do Anglian solar systems only work when the sun is out?
No. The solar panels absorb sunlight to generate energy. So while they work best on long summer days when there is the most sunlight, they still generate energy in winter.
How much will I save by fitting solar panels?
Depends on the number of panels and location. Rather than an average our specialists will be able to determine from your location, house orientation and roof pitch an estimate of the energy you are likely to generate and savings.
What is the best place to locate solar panels?
South facing locations are best, then south west and south east. A west facing roof is better than east, whilst north facing is unsuitable as are shaded locations.
Can solar panels be fitted on to shallow pitch or flat roofs?
Because of the structural implications, Anglian solar panels cannot be fitted to flat roofs. You also cannot fit them on asbestos or thatched roofs.
Do I need planning permission?
Normally no if you live in England. It is worth check with your planning authority if you live in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland or if you live in a listed building or a conservation area. You will however, require Building Regulations approval, which Anglian will take complete care of as part of your installation. Failure to obtain Building Regulations approval could lead to difficulties should you choose to sell your house.
How long does it take to install the systems?
Approximately 2 days subject to size of installation.
Are they easily damaged by footballs or cricket balls?
Generally no, made of toughened glass, also flat plates are more robust than evacuated tubes.
What happens to any excess electricity generated when I’m not using much or when I am away?
Any surplus electricity generated in a PV system is automatically fed back to the grid for which you will receive 3.1p per kWh.
Will these systems provide all my power needs?
No. At night, for instance, or when you are using a lot of power, the system will be augmented by energy from conventional sources to maintain your constant supply.
When will I need to pay for my improvements?
A deposit for the improvements may be required and then the balance will be due on completion of the installation.
