The onset of the economic downturn is encouraging more people to think about improving their homes, it has been claimed.
Editor of Grand Designs Magazine Claire Barrett believes that homeowners are currently more inclined to enhance their properties than consider the prospect of moving.
A decline in house prices means for many that investing in things such as conservatories, windows or new bathrooms is a means of adding value to the property.
Indeed, a survey by AA Personal Loans found that almost a third (32 per cent) of people who intend to make changes to their home will do so as they believe it can boost its market value.
Ms Barrett claims that people are increasingly taking this approach on account of the economy.
“Something that we’ve noticed is people are staying put, so they are willing to spend what money they have got on doing improvements,” she revealed.
