Below Par Norwich Lions Lose To Wisbech

By on 4th April in Fun

This was a poor performance from Norwich to say the least. They were caught cold by a very determined Wisbech team desperate to avoid relegation whereas Norwich had nothing to play for except pride.  Wisbech contended fiercely at the breakdown turning Norwich possession over time and time again.

Toby Neill challenged

It was from such a turnover that Wisbech scored after 2 minutes when scrum half Will Pettitt who was man of the match scorched through a hole to touch down halfway out. Fly half Tom Long could not convert the score.

Big tackle

Norwich on their first sortie into enemy territory were awarded a penalty which Rob Micklethwaite converted to reduce the arrears. Norwich could not hang onto possession long enough to build any pressure and it was no surprise when Long made a telling break after yet another turnover and it was finished off by Pettitt going over under the posts with Long adding the conversion to make the score 12—3 in favour of the hosts.

Ruck over

Norwich were fortunate that Wisbech did not score again until just before half time due to a combination of some desperate defence and some poor finishing by the home side. However it was Pettitt again who scored  under the posts after another fine break which effectively killed the game as a contest. Long had no problem with the conversion.

Gathering the ball

After half time having had a rollicking from the coaches Norwich did in fact come more into the game by securing possession and with a succession of driving mauls were unlucky not to score. However another conceded penalty saw Norwich defending again and in doing so they gave away a penalty which Long kicked. Moments later a clean break in the centre was well supported for Wisbech’s no 7 to score score halfway out to wrap up the game for the home side.

Struggling to battle through
Norwich got a consolation try when Jon Snowling touched down after a rolling maul which Rob Micklethwaite converted .Wisbech added a further try by Long which he converted  to give them the win they thoroughly deserved.
