Here is a very special guest blog from an Olympic star and TV personality Sally Gunnell.
Sally Gunnell OBE enjoys a special place in the hearts of the UK public. She remains the only woman ever to hold European, Commonwealth, World and Olympic titles concurrently. Her 400m hurdling exploits have been followed by a successful career in television and motivational speaking. She is married with three young sons and lives in rural West Sussex.
And welcome to my new Anglian Home Improvements blog! I’m delighted to be joining the team as we head towards the greatest show on earth – London 2012. Over the coming months, I’ll keep you up to speed with the latest Olympic developments. I’ll also let you know what I’ve been up to; they’ve got me doing all sorts, so it should be exciting and a bit of fun.
I had a great time at your Destination 2012 conference in Peterborough. I enjoyed finding out what you’re all about as a business and it was nice to get a glimpse of some of the team. I’m looking forward to getting to know you all better in the coming year or so.
I’ve had the pleasure of running a few tours round the Olympic site in East London and I have to say that it makes me feel very proud to be a Brit. We’re ahead of schedule and the site looks amazing. The stadium itself is really taking shape and you might have seen me doing an impromptu run down a newly laid piece of track a little while ago. As usual in these situations, somebody came up with the idea on the spur of the moment, probably because they got a bit excited about the telly and press being there. Anyway, I was all dolled up because I’d been doing this promotional work, but I thought “why not?” So off I went, tottering along the track in my high heels! A bit ridiculous, but it got some coverage and they always tell me there’s no such thing as bad publicity!
I hope you got your ticket applications in on time. I like the fact that the organisers are making as many tickets available as possible to the public, so I don’t mind one bit that I’m buying mine along with everybody else. I spent ages wondering what to go for. I’ve got three boys and they all wanted to see different events. My hubby Jon was the same, so in the end I went for a pretty wide range of options. Oddly, Jon wants to go to the women’s beach volleyball – I love the way that you never stop learning new things about your partner; I had no idea he liked volleyball…
