Anglian Home Improvements sponsored BARC driver Jack Piper brings us the race report from Brands Hatch:
“We managed to achieve our first target for the season by recording a top ten finish out of sixteen cars at Brands Hatch in the opening round of the Formula Renault BARC championship.
My first race was wrecked when I was taken out on only the second lap. I was making my way through Paddock Hill bend when another guy drove straight into me, sending us both spinning into the gravel.
He apologised after the race, but it was really frustrating because I’d made a decent start. Luckily there wasn’t too much damage and the team were able to repair the car and clean it up ready for race two.
I got away pretty well again and soon made up a few places. This time I stayed out of trouble as a couple of other guys found themselves going off for various reasons and I managed to make my way up from 14th to ninth.
Towards the end of the race I had a few problems braking and lost a place on the final lap so had to settle for tenth. While we’d have been happy with a top ten finish before the weekend, I was a bit disappointed but it’s not a bad start and gives us plenty to build on for the next meeting at Silverstone in three weeks”.
The Anglian Blog Team will be following Jack’s progress this year. The next race will be in three weeks at Silverstone.
