First of all Happy New Year everyone! Another year has begun, we are all Spring cleaning and desperately trying not to break our New Year resolutions, but what does 2012 have in store for us?
I think the biggest event of this year will most definitely be the Olympic Games. There is going to be massive coverage of the whole event, millions of people will be travelling from all over the world to see their country’s top athletes competing for that dream full-filling gold medal. Anglian Home Improvements are sponsoring Olympic hopefuls Louis Smith (gymnastics), Mark Hunter (rowing), Charlie Grice (distance runner) along with Sally Gunnell, who have all been sending us blogs about their training and preparation for this big year. Fingers crossed these talented people all have a successful year and bring the United Kingdom a few medals too.
All of this sounds like a great year is before us, however, there are also a couple of negatives looming over the UK. The current economy is in a poor state and a lot of financial experts are saying there could be a ‘double dip’ putting us back into recession. David Cameron’s New Year speech stated we are in for a tough year, we are all having to tighten our belt buckles, but the Olympics could help drag the country into a better financial state. The Euro is also balancing on a knifes edge, with finance chiefs from some of the UK’s biggest companies giving it a 1 in 3 chance of at least one country leaving this year, but will it disappear completely? To help counter this, a potential boost for the economy could come from renewable energy, which the DECC claims will bring in £2.5 billion worth of investment, bringing with it 12,000 jobs to the UK.
2012 could mean the end of the world! According to the Mayan calendar on 21 December 2012 the world will go through a transitional period, which some people believe is going to bring the apocalypse; others believe it is the beginning of a new era, possibly transforming earths inhabitants physically or spiritually. What do you think about this? Do you believe the Mayans have predicted the end of the world?
