Worthy Farm goes solar

Worthy Farm may be best known for its annual music festival, but it is now doing its bit for the UK's energy efficiency.

It boasts the largest privately-owned solar panel farm in the country, meaning it can create green electricity for up to 40 properties.

The solar panels are capable of generating up to 200kWh of power as they are mounted on various farm buildings throughout the site.

A total of 1,100 solar panels have been installed at the Somerset farm with the intention of saving around 100 tonnes of CO2 emissions each and every year.

Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis told the BBC: "Yesterday it was raining and covered in clouds so it was a really dark and dingy day and we were getting 37kW from this without any sun. It's extraordinary."

It was recently revealed that Wrexham council is seeking to install solar panels on around a third of its properties, which will help reduce energy bills for local residents.
