Offshore wind industry in decline?
The coming years could prove a difficult time for the offshore wind industry, experts have predicted.
Energy analysts Douglas-Westwood believe that the sector will experience a slump in 2013, which could give rise to greater use of solar panels as an eco-friendly alternative.
The group anticipates that orders for offshore wind turbines will decrease by 93 per cent in three years-time, although suppliers will feel the impact as early as 2011.
Company chair John Westwood commented: "Whilst Europe has been the hot-spot of activity to date.
"We anticipate that China will become the world leader in offshore wind, overtaking the UK early in the next decade."
Consumer Focus recently emphasised that the government must not lose sight of what it set out to achieve with its Green Deal, namely to improve energy efficiency in UK properties.
As the scheme evolves, the group believes that efforts must be made to explain to consumers exactly how they will benefit.
