London Shimmer pilot brings drastic energy savings to participants.

Shimmer scheme produces energy saving results
Households in London will see energy savings of between £200 and £3,500 through the new smart home energy pilot programme Shimmer.
The pilot uses the Feed-in Tariff scheme to provide households with solar photovoltaic panels and a smart system that provides real time, monetised information and energy consumption.
Philip Sellwood, chief executive of the Energy Savings Trust (EST), stated: "Shimmer ensures savings are optimised by smart use of appliances based on the simple, actionable feedback made possible by the data that collected."
The scheme is run by the EST, London Rebuilding and HomeZone, and illustrates the opportunity for the social housing sector to bring useful services to tenants.
One participating household has nearly doubled their family income through energy savings alone.
It is hoped that by combining solar technology with a tool that allows consumers to physically monitor their energy use, households will not only switch to energy efficiency measures but will alter their behaviour.
Simple measures such as turning lights off when leaving a room and switching machines off from standby can reduce energy consumption.
